After major disruptions throughout their 3 car parks due to upgrades and repairs to the existing grid-powered lighting, the SCGT needed an alternative solution that met with Australian standards, was sustainable for years to come and caused no environmental or user disruption.

Stage 1 – Leadsun created a new solar parking lot lighting plan to ensure the car park met with Australian standards.

Stage 2 – Focused on the entrance way where the solar panels were used to power up lights in the main driveway. The use of existing footings and lowerable winch poles made the installation of the Alpha AE5 lights an easy process. The solar parking lot lighting was a cost effective solution that eliminated all major construction costs and inconveniences whilst at the same time satisfying popular energy sustainability demands.

Project Overview

As a result of the growing population and close proximity of the Badgerys Creek Airport, the Penrith City Council (PCC) identified a need for more car parking spaces in the city. With higher traffic after dark a high grade solar powered parking lot lights solution was also required for visibility and safety.

In conjunction with Leadsun’s advanced and sustainable solar powered parking lot lights system, which included 6 Twin Arm lighting systems with 1200mm outreaches, lowerable EZYpoles were chosen to support the solar units for ease of access for any future maintenance. Four of the poles were strategically positioned at the steel ramp way leading to and from the car park linking it to the shopping precinct and nearby public transport.

This solar lighting solution will operate at full brightness from Dusk to Dawn and allows commuters and patrons the convenience of an easy accessible and safe passage to and from this car park. This cost effective lighting  solution has also eased the traffic congestion for the community and the council has acknowledged this project as a sustainable win for all.

As part of their zero-carbon emission energy program, The Maribyrnong City Council opted to go  ‘off-the-grid’ and install LED parking lot lights system for the Angliss Reserve Car Park. The challenge was they needed it completed within 2 days and to have no disruption.

Leadsun’s solution was to use the easy to install ‘All-In-One’ Solar Engine with Plug & Play LED fixture coupled with the EZYpole lowerable poles & concrete-less footings allowing the project team to successfully install the entire LED parking lot lights solution from ‘start-to-finish’ in just one day. This was achieved because this project required:

  • NO expensive underground trenching or wiring
  • NO excavation of footing holes
  • NO need for any machinery to lift poles or work at heights

Leadsun’s ultra-efficient LED parking lot lights system provides continuous dusk to dawn operation and achieves compliance to lighting standards during peak activity times of the evening.

We are not disturbing or contaminating, so it is a really good option for us. We have the EZYpole which is the winch pole without having to bring a Cherry Picker. Just by lowering the pole from the ground saved us a lot of money. It was a no-brainer to put these lights in here and the fact that was done in one day made it even better.

As a part of the ‘Revitalising Braybrook’ initiative, the MCC was looking for an environmental sustainable solar public lighting that heightened safety for young local residents using the car parks and thoroughfares connecting the Braybrook Community Centre with Skinner Reserve Precinct.

An important consideration of the council was that the unnecessary illumination of pathways and car parks late in the evening that could possibly encourage ‘anti-social’ behavior. Leadsun’s range of solar public lighting products feature dimming and motion sensor technology that allows the lights to automatically ‘dim’ or ‘turn-off’ at a set time of the evening as nominated by the council.

Due to there being no in-ground cabling required, and the use of a concrete-less footing system, the installation process was very fast and was non-disruptive to both the environment and the local community who continued to use the whole precinct as normal.

The solar lighting project was successfully completed with lighting levels throughout the park high enough to ensure that all pathways and car park areas are safe for the public to use at night without the fear of crime.

As a result of community consultation and their request to engage in a more healthy and active lifestyle in the evening and early morning, the Goulburn Mulwaree Council was able to seek a Federal Sport and Recreation Grant to fund the project.

Most of the 4km pathway was clear of shading issues from adjacent trees which allowed most of the locations to use ‘stand-alone’ solar powered path lights, however there were two sections of the pathway heavily shaded by trees which required a tailored engineered solution to ensure ALL solar powered path lights work reliably all year round. Leadsun’s engineering team were able to design a system using a high powered ‘Master’ solar engine to remotely power several ‘remote’ lights by installing shallow underground 12Vdc wiring between each ‘remote’ light location. Additionally, there were other areas of the pathway situated directly adjacent to residential properties that required low-glare LED remote bollards that were also powered by a high-powered ‘Master’ solar engine.

Council’s use of sustainable energy options reflects community expectations. There is an increasing awareness that we can all do our bit to reduce carbon emissions across a broad range of smaller scale projects and in our individual lives. Along with many Goulburn residents, I enjoy running this track early in the morning or later in the afternoon. The lights will be a great addition to the course, particularly in winter.

The solar LED street lighting system is also installed on a lowerable pole system that allowed all installation works to be carried out quickly and safely at ground level without the use of any elevated work platforms. Additionally, the complete solar LED street lighting system features Leadsun’s unique and technically advanced wireless system that allows all systems to be easily programmed to a specific working mode operation. Each system consists of a 40W ‘all-in-one’ solar engine that uses a ‘plug & play’ cable connect system to attach to an ‘asymmetrical’ LED light head that concentrates all lighting onto the pathway whilst minimising spill light at the front and rear of the fitting.

After much consultation, the council has decided the most practical & viable solution was to install a Solar Powered Lighting Solution. Using part of a $474,000 NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, a 2.5 kilometre stretch of sensor lights was decided upon to increase accessibility hours. Being one of the best walkways in town the community was thrilled to see the upgrades move ahead. The introduction of a off-grid solar-powered street lights system is a great initiative by the SMRC that is much more sustainable and cost-effective compared to conventional electric lighting. This project was delivered nearly three weeks ahead of schedule and with minimal disruption to pathway users during construction works.

This project has provided pedestrians an accessible and safe walkway. The increased lighting is a very welcome addition to this popular walkway and I know locals are feeling safer when walking along the path at night.
