Project Overview

After concerning safety issues at night and early morning, City of Melbourne wanted to protect their community by designing a shared pathway lighting solution along a 360m stretch of Capital Trail in Royal Park. Leadsun took on the project from end to end and created a well-lit safe environment for pedestrians.

The Capital City Trail is a shared path for bikes and pedestrians that loops around around Melbourne. The Royal Park section follows the old Inner Circle Railway through Moonee Ponds Creek towards Docklands, pass the Polly Woodside Maritime Museum and then the Exhibition Centre, before making it back to Southbank.

Leadsun Solution

  • 20 Solar Powered AE2 All-In-One Series Systems
  • Solar Module Size = 25W
  • 10W LED Maximum output power (Dusk to Dawn operation)
  • Adaptive lighting control automatically dims lights to 30% during inactivity
  • Lithium-ion batteries provides 10+ years maintenance-free life span

Capital Trail also features a unique shared pathway lighting configuration where the lights were required to dim down to approximately 30% brightness after 4 hours from dusk so that the surrounding wildlife is not affected by the brighter lights.

The local community is extremely happy with the new solar pathway lighting as they feel a lot safer when walking to and from the train and tram stops of an evening or early morning.
